GRAMBLING – Grambling Police Chief Tommy Clark, Jr., wants people to know his department is serious about curbing gun play and gun violence in this city of approximately 5,100 residents. Police have eliminated bottle clubs, establishments that don’t serve alcohol but encourage patrons to bring their own alcoholic beverages, and where officers are often called for fights and gunshots; they’ve instituted random vehicle checkpoints, especially on Grambling State University home football game weekends; and they’ve started a program with high schoolers at Lincoln Preparatory School aimed at building rapport between teens and police.
