in
BCS LOGO.jpg

NEW ORLEANS — It’s more than just LSU against Alabama in tonight’s Bowl Championship Series championship game.
It’s the pride of both states being placed on the line at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Nearly 65 percent of LSU’s roster is comprised of state players. Alabama’s roll call features just over 45 percent hailing from within its state lines.

Trash efforts picking up

Recent efforts to help prevent littering in the state have made their way to Lincoln Parish.
Officials reported that a 2010 Keep Louisiana Beautiful survey found that litter pick-up is costing parishes and local governments $40 million a year.
However, Lincoln Parish residents are taking a stand.

Eat healthy, trim down in 2012

in
Darden, Jessica.jpg

As most of our readers are well aware, I am the person you turn to for the Louisiana Cuisine section of the Daily Leader that normally comes out every other Sunday.
However few readers might also know that I love to cook. And with this being the second week of the New Year, surely many residents are still on their “eat healthier” kicks.
What many fail to realize though is that eating healthier doesn’t have to mean that you eat food that is bland and tasteless.

Micromanaging teen daughter bad idea

in
Rosemond, John.jpg

Question: Our 17-year-old daughter is an honor student who has been accepted to three colleges. She has not been a risk taker, except with boys. Her most recent boyfriend is a wonderful kid and very smart. Apparently, they both resent our rule that a parent must be home when either of them is visiting at the other one’s home, but they’ve gone along with it, however reluctantly. We just found out that they’ve been texting about sneaking out in cars to be alone. What should we do?

Jindal works GOP nomination

in
MELINDA.jpg

The intense campaigning for the Republican presidential nomination has been a boon to one Louisiana politician, but not the one actually making his bid for the White House in the fall election.
Gov. Bobby Jindal has deftly used his appearances on the campaign trail for Rick Perry to his advantage, gaining attention on insider political blogs, within the conservative community and in the national press, even as Perry’s campaign appears to flounder.

in
Davis, OK.jpg

NEW ORLEANS — I’ll be honest with you. I was hoping for LSU and Oklahoma State squaring off in Monday’s BCS championship game.
Not LSU and Alabama.
Been there, done that.
Nevertheless, if this is what the computers, “expert” analysts and a plethora of other judging bodies have determined as the best matchup to determine who is the No. 1 college football team in the land for the 2011 season, so be it.
We all have to live with it.
I’ll also be honest with you on this, too: no matter who might have been pitted against LSU in the big game, it might not matter.
