Cool-season annual herbs are hardy enough to survive our normal winter temperatures and actually prefer to grow in the cool-to-mild days and chilly-to-cold nights we have here during the cool season. Some of the most common plants planted in herb gardens are members of the onion genus Allium. Onions, garlic and chives are the most notable.
