Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine Aledia “Jo” Johnson Willis, 66, will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 7 p.m. in New Zion Baptist Church of Eunice, Rev. Allen Ben - Pastor. Burial will be in Eunice North Cemetery in Eunice. Rev. James Proctor, pastor of First Church of God In Christ of Jeanerette, will be officiating the funeral services. Mrs. Willis died on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 in Ruston, La. She was a member of Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Superintendent Thomas Kennedy. She graduated from Charles Drew High School in Eunice and attended LaBelle Beauty and Barber College in New Orleans. She later graduated from Grambling State University with a Bachelor degree and a Master degree in Social Work. She worked as a licensed social worker in Ruston, a resident center manager at Grambling State University, Outreach planner/ coordinator at St. Landry Parish Community Action Agency, and Field Placement Manager at Lincoln General Hospital. Mrs. Willis was a community organizer and received many honors for her humanitarian deeds; outstanding single parent; community service achievement award; National Association of University Women Award; Whoís Who Among American Colleges and Universities; National Deanís List; A.C.E.S. Service Award and many other awards. Surviving Mrs. Willis are: her Mother, Madie Hilts Johnson, Eunice, LA; three sons Byron K. Wallace (Sonja) of Midland, TX; Brent K. Willis (Jessica) Waldorf, MD; Brandon K. Willis (Pisces) Meridianville, AL; ten grandchildren; one brother, Willie R. Johnson (Diana) Eunice, LA: and four sisters, Dr. Ezora Proctor (James) Crowley, LA., Gloria Vallare, Eunice, LA, Sandra G. Simmons, Ruston, LA and Janet F. Guillory, Eunice, LA. She is also survived by seven step-children Freda Adams, Shreveport, LA, Marietta Willis, Crowley, LA, Jennifer Barmer (Pastor Byron) San Diego, CA, Deloris Maxine LaVergne (Rayfield) Basile, LA, Allison Willis, Shreveport, LA, Lolita Wilson (Shawn) Colorado Springs, Colo. and Drucilla Willis, San Diego, CA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by: her Father, Willie Johnson, her brother, Frank Johnson, her godparents, Joe and Joyce Johnson, two stepsons Butch Allan Willis and John Willis, and her husband Allan Willis Sr. Visitation will be observed on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 from 4 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. in New Zion Baptist Church of Eunice.
