Edwin Alexander “Buck” Peden, 75 of Suffolk, VA and formerly of El Dorado died Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Sentara Obici Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born November 8, 1935 in Ruston, Louisiana he was the son of Robert Alexander and Lois Spinks Peden who preceded him in death. Ed was a graduate of Ruston High School and attended Louisiana Tech where he was a member of the Tech Band and served as President of Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Upon graduation with a degree in chemical engineering, he married his college sweetheart, Julie Ann Wooley in the summer of 1958. Immediately after his graduation he attended Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Newport, RI where he was commissioned Ensign in the United States Navy. He served in the Navy for 4 years stationed in Long Beach, CA onboard the USS Henry W. Tucker (DD-875). Upon completion of military service he transitioned to civilian life by working at various chemical/petroleum corporations nationwide. He finally settled in his home state of Louisiana in Baton Rouge. Amongst being a devoted family man, he enjoyed watching and supporting his beloved LSU Tigers, never missing a home game in Tiger Stadium. Later moving to El Dorado he was employed by Ensco Chemical. He was a very spiritual man as is evidenced by his work along with his wife, Julie, who preceded him in death by 6 months, during their membership in St. Paul United Methodist Church. While at St. Paul he chaired the Building Committee and numerous fellowship groups, always serving others and spreading the word of God. Survivors include his daughter, Terri Lynn Desselle and her husband, James “Hooper” Desselle and their children, Alex Desselle and his wife Ashley and their daughter, Amelia Desselle, and Corey Desselle all of Baton Rouge, LA and sons, LTCOL (Ret) Robert “Bob” Peden USA of Ruston, LA and Senior Chief USN William “Bill” Peden and his wife Nanette and their children, Phillip Peden, Jalen Thrower, Sterling Peden and Makiah Peden all of Suffolk, VA. Also surviving is a sister, Martha Jean Stevens and her husband Marvin of Portland, OR along with nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, February 4, 2011 at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rob Walker officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 P.M. in Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston, Louisiana. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 700 W.
