Postage rates to increase Monday
Beginning at midnight on Sunday, the United States Postal Service will raise the rate for a postage stamp from 37 to 39 cents.
The increase is due to rising gas costs, the higher cost of living and the devastation brought on as post offices were put out of use in South Louisiana by hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Ruston Post Office Bulk Mail Clerk Joseph Fontenot said.
“It’s been four years since we had a rate change,” said Ruston Post Office Retail Associate employee Kathy Lenard. “The rates usually go up a little every 4-5 years.”
