RCT play ‘Cake’ offers a sweet opportunity
Ruston Community Theatre will roll out the red carpet on Sunday for the 2 p.m. Louisiana premiere of “The Red Velvet Cake War” at the Dixie Center for the Arts. Other showings are at 2 p.m. Oct. 23 and at 7 p.m. Oct. 21-22.
The play, written by comedy playwrights Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, is set in a small Texas town where the Verdeen sisters are hosting a family reunion. There are situations from romance to thievery and fights as well as food and comedy rolled into one sweet play. Making things even tastier is the fact that the audience will be able to eat cake after the opening show.
People should make plans to attend the show, as this is a rare opportunity to see a premiere play in Ruston. RCT was given the opportunity to produce the play when one of the playwrights called the Dixie about another one of their productions RCT had produced.
