Raise domestic abuse awareness, support cause
October signals the beginning of fall, but it is also a month when we reflect on a scourge in our society.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Domestic Abuse Resistance Team pays homage this month to men, women and children who have lost their lives to domestic violence in the five parishes DART represents, which include Lincoln, Jackson, Bienville, Claiborne and Union.
On or around Oct. 18, DART will erect the “Silent Witness Display” — life-size red silhouettes with the names of each victim — in front of the Ruston Civic Center. Then, at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 27, there will be a candlelight vigil at the Civic Center to remember those lost.
