Funeral services will be held for Johnnie Chandler, 97, at Bienville Baptist Church, on Saturday, August 14, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Jerry Key will officiate.
The interment will follow at the Liberty Hill cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Kilpatrick’s Rose Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia, Louisiana on Friday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Mrs. Chandler was born May 12, 1913, in Bienville, LA, to Robert and Annie Jones Grigg.
She entered into rest on August 11, 2010, in Ruston, LA. Mrs. Chandler was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bienville. Homer and Johnnie Chandler were the owner/operators of Chandler’s Grocery and Market in Bienville for over 30 years.
Mrs. Chandler was an active member of First Baptist Church in Bienville for many years as a Sunday School teacher. She was an avid cook and loved to bring dishes that she had made to many occasions.
At a very young age she was a member of her family’s band, The Taylor-Grigg Louisiana Melody Makers, during the 1920’s and 1930’s.
Mrs. Chandler is preceded in death by her husband Homer Chandler, and her siblings Shelly Grigg of Bienville, LA, Ausie Grigg of Hebert, LA, Berkie Sanford of Bienville, LA, Ione Thrash of Shreveport, LA, Crockett Grigg of Bienville, LA and Lorene Grigg of Bossier City, LA. She is survived by her son Homer Grigg Chandler and wife Ramona, grandson Michael Walter Chandler, granddaughter Ashley Ryan Chandler and by numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. Pallbearers will include Stewart Robinette, Mark Robinette, Tim Moffett, Nelson Stewart, Justin Wyatt, Justin Snipe, and Roy Fair.
