Schools’ scores vary greatly within the parish, from a high of 138.6 at A.E. Phillips to a low of 76.8 at I.A. Lewis for 2008. Some debate whether this is due to the quality of the school or the population of students it serves. Some schools have a much larger percentage of poverty students than others, and many argue this group of students is at a disadvantage in the standardized testing used to determine the scores.
