Don't neglect family homes
In some areas of the city, uninhabited houses sit unattended, as their porches cave in, windows are broken out and internal problems develop.
City Chief Code Enforcement Officer Mitch Dufour said a number of inherited houses jointly owned by siblings or other relatives get placed on the city’s list of structures recommended to either undergo extensive repairs or demolition.
“Family members move away, and the property gets neglected,” Dufour said. “It sits there empty and deteriorates. No one is taking care of it, and it literally falls apart.”
