Much more than just football
And it should mean much, and to many. Because Eddie Robinson wasn’t only about football. He was one of the proudest Americans I’ve ever met, a man who believed in his God and his country as much as he believed in his family and his team.
That couldn’t have always been easy in those turbulent days of the pre-civil rights era.
State Sen. Bob Kostelka of Monroe probably said it best: “Eddie Robinson transcended race, religion and social status. He was a great coach, but he made people he touched better people because they knew him.”
