Earmark gives needed aid to Even Start

Since 1994, the Even Start family literacy program has worked to break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy by improving the educational opportunities of low-income families.
Although there are few programs more fundamentally deserving of state and federal funding, this initiative has endured severe cuts for years.

U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander did his part to help reverse that trend recently. A $200,000 federal earmark he requested through the U.S. Department of Education is coming through just in time to save Even Start.
