In situations like this, it’s better to be safe than sorry. We learned that much during hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Be sure that south Louisiana leaders want to allow residents back home as quickly as it is safe to do so. They’ve been working around the clock since last week to ensure people and property are safe.

We must let them finish the job they’ve started. Volunteers and first-responders across the state and the region are working to keep evacuees as comfortable as possible. It’s an uncomfortable situation for everyone involved, but it is a temporary inconvenience.
