Campuses to remain safe and gun-free

With opposition coming from the state’s commissioner of higher education, college presidents, several campus police chiefs and college student leaders, we question why Wooten or any other lawmaker would seek to bring it up again at all.

Clearly, there is strong support in Louisiana for keeping our campuses weapon-free. The safety of university students, faculty, staff and visitors is a top priority for those arguing for both sides of this bill. There’s no proof that allowing concealed guns on campuses would make them safer than they are now, with no guns allowed.
