Ryan Collie, a Ruston native who spent eight months in Iraq and returned home, visiting children at Glen View Elementary, is one of those.

He and his fellow Marines read letters from the Glen View school children at the end of their days in the field dodging improvised explosive devices and insurgent fighters.

The connection those correspondences provide to “back home” is priceless for the men and women of the armed services. There are many who never get that kind of outside connection. It would be a shame to let that go unnoticed or unattended to.
