In the 1950s, north Louisiana was a haven for the country rock scene with such artists as The Residents, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Steppenwolf cropping up.

While many of the younger generation residents in the area may not be familiar with the music, those who grew up here with the music remember and the artists still have a following.

“They (Europeans) really relish this music (Giles and Hawkins),” said David Anderson, contributing author for Shreveport Sounds. “British and German record labels released a four CD set of the stars of the Louisiana Hayride.”
