Reasons given run the gamut from cost — curbside would be too expensive, some say; it would be impossible to enforce billing, according to others — to the difficulty of getting a trash can to the end of long private driveways, which trash trucks could not go down.
Police jury member Bobby Bennett is a strong supporter of keeping Dumpsters.

“It’s the most cheap, most economical way of gathering garbage,” he said.
A door-to-door system would create hardships on the elderly, and trash cans could blow over into the road, he said, becoming hazardous.

“It’s not very handy,” he added.
