“We never use poverty as an excuse. We have very high expectations of the students,” she said.

The attitude of RES educators should be an example not only for local teachers, but also for teachers everywhere.

Just because their students may not have access to reading material at home, or cannot rely on help from their parents, or don’t have the learning experience that traveling brings doesn’t mean they are not able to do well in school and on high-stakes standardized tests.
