International Jihadists, such as Osama Bin Laden and his followers, are but a small sample. Jihad, often translated as “holy war,” is a component of Islam. Its interpretation has differed over time depending on the historical circumstances of the community practicing it. Both politicians and religious scholars have repeatedly used and abused it to eliminate opponents as well as to face national enemies.
