If there is a defect in plumbing or dry drain traps, some residents in the affected areas might also see smoke rising out of their toilets or sinks as testing is taking place.

“We did a study and identified major basins (or areas) associated with the 35 sewer lift stations,” Water Utilities Director Richard Aillet said. “We had meters to determine how much flow is normally in the system and how much it had after rainfall. We picked this area (to smoke test) because it had the most inflow after rainfall.”
