The Lincoln Parish School Board awarded Traxler Construction Company as the contractor for the Ruston High School Spirit Building and freshman locker room projects.
Traxler Construction Company submitted the lowest bid at $2.5 million.
Architect Mike Walpole said he budgeted the project to cost about $2 million.
Lincoln Parish Schools Transportation Supervisor James Payton said the spirit building will hold all of RHS’s spirit teams’ equipment and the freshmen locker room will store all the freshmen sports teams’ equipment.
Ruston High School will be hosting the Bearcat Classic debate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, sponsored by Woodard and Clement Law Offices. Several schools from across the state will compete in events. The Top 4 finishers in each division will earn bids to the state tournament. Several types of debates will be offered incluading:
• Examination debating, which is a two-partner debate event focusing on issues of government policy.
• Lincoln Douglas — a one-on-one event in which students debate values.
Traffic was backed up on Tech Drive around 5 p.m. Thursday following a three-vehicle wreck. Ruston Fire Department District Chief Tommie Woods said the incident occurred at the intersection of Tech and Bearcat drives, and Ruston Ambulance Services transported two patients to the Northern Louisiana Medical Center with minor injuries. The Ruston Police Department did not have any additional details regarding the wreck as of press time today.
