HOUSTON — In February Charla Craddock became the first athlete at Louisiana Tech to win a Conference USA Championship by winning gold in the long jump. On Saturday Craddock claimed gold again, sweeping the long jump by winning the outdoor title with a personal record mark.
Craddock jumped 20-10.75 (6.37m) to win gold and claim first team all-conference honors. Her mark ranks tied for 8th in school history and ties for ninth in the nation this year while also tying for 36th in the world this year. The upset victory came as she entered the meet ranked fifth in the league.
Freshman Alexandra Starkova was named to the Western Athletic Conference All-Tournament team for singles after leading Louisiana Tech University to the leaguesemifinals last week at the Gates Tennis Center in Denver, Colo.
The native of Madrid, Spain was dominant at the No. 2 position, delivering straight set victories versus Texas State in the quarterfinals and No. 66 nationally-ranked San Jose State in the semis.
Starkova overpowered the Bobcats’ Melissa Hadad 6-1, 6-3 as the Lady Techsters advanced to the next round with a 4-0 shutout.
BOCA RATON, Fla. — The Louisiana Tech tennis team started and finished strong on Saturday morning as the Lady Techsters swept Conference USA foe Florida Atlantic, 7-0.
“It was a good day for the Lady Techsters, said Chad Camper who picked up his first win as head coach. “We really hit our stride early in doubles and kept on rolling. It was a productive last two days and after a few days off, we will get right back to work.”
Tech’s doubles tandem of Marta Sramkova and Melanie Urvoy notched their second dominating performance at No. 3 of the weekend, winning easily 6-1.
