Cedar Creek Middle School cheerleaders went to the University of Louisiana at Monroe for cheer camp the last week in July.
Five girls were named All-America cheerleaders: MacKenzie Harris, Caroline Hill, Kendall Machen, Elizabeth Kate Pardue and Mary Terral. The girls won first in their Home Pom routine and first in the X-treme routine. They also received third place in the cheer category.
While driving home in the afternoons, I have witnessed the progression of the common elderberry (Sambucus canadensis). These plants bloomed in the spring, displaying a dense, flat-topped cluster of flowers, from June through July. From the white flowers clusters, large clusters of purplish-black berries develop when mature. A wonderful find for someone looking for native fruit to harvest this time of year.
