Money trouble hits parish jail
“We want to exhaust every possible alternative before we go to the people,” Stone said. The past has shown asking for a tax is fruitless, anyway, he said, with two such propositions failing in recent years.
Total revenue sits around $2,125,000 per year, Stone said, but expenses are at about $2,230,000.
The LPDC, which has been at full inmate capacity since 1999, had a fund balance of more than $400,000 from 2006 that will deplete within about four years if no change is made. The parish and city will have to pick up the tab, as required by law, if funds run dry.
