Charles Purvis Wilson, Jr.
Charles Purvis Wilson, Jr., 93, of Nashville, Arkansas, passed September 28, 2012, at Dierks Nursing and Rehab Center. Services will be held at 1 pm Wednesday, October 3rd at Nashville Funeral Home, 1208 West Sunset Street in Nashville, AR. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm, until service time. Graveside Services and interment will be Thursday, October 4th, 2 pm at New Rocky Valley Cemetery on Martin Luther King Drive in Grambling, LA.
Mr. Wilson was born in Grambling, Louisiana February 11, 1919 to the late Charles and Carrie Holmes Wilson. He was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church at an early age. Charles graduated from Grambling High School, enrolled in Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee, AL and then was drafted into the Army. He served his country for five years, returned to Tuskegee and received a Plumbing Degree from Tuskegee Institute in 1949.
Mr. Wilson worked as a plumber for North Carolina Central University in Durham North Carolina. He also owned and operated Wilson Plumbing. He would make an annual trip to the Tuskegee Homecoming game and frequently sponsored the attendance of his daughter, family and friends. He was fondly called: Daddy, Pawpaw, Mr. Wilson, Uncle, and Charlie.
Mr. Wilson relocated to Nashville, Arkansas from Durham, North Carolina in 2005 to be near his daughter, Cassandra and son-in-law Fred Turney. He was a member of the New Beginning Christian Church in Texarkana, Arkansas. He could be seen in Nashville walking his daily two miles until his health failed. He could also be seen slowly driving his red truck all over Nashville and Texarkana. He loved to walk in the city park and attend Scrapper football games, daily activities at the Nashville Senior Adult Center and dances at the Howard County Children’s Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Carrie Wilson; four brothers: Curtis Wilson, Clyde Wilson, Ira Wilson and Jasper Wilson and five sisters: Eula Faison, Essie Brown, Dezzie Huey, Lessie Taylor, and Cliffie Brown.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted daughter Cassandra Turney (Fred) Nashville, AR; two sister-in-laws: Emma C. Wilson, Grambling, LA and Lottie Wilson, Woodbridge, VA; eleven nieces Rose Rentz, Sacramento, CA; Eselean Thomas, Sacramento, CA; Bessie Mitchell (Levi), Bastrop, LA; Dunice Hammond (Aubrey) Sacramento, CA; Dorothy Rosemond, Sacramento, CA; Jennifer Gardner, Woodstock, GA; Carolyn Wilson, Park Forest, IL; Phyllis Wilson, Markham, IL; Shirley Wilson Burns, Grambling, LA; Valerie Charter, Woodbridge, VA and Yvonne Wilson, Palos Hills, IL and five nephews Clyde Faison, Ruston, LA; Clyde Wilson, Jr. (Brenda), Houston, TX; Mack Charles Wilson, Roswell, GA; and twins Daniel Wilson (Michelle), Chicago Heights, IL and Donald Wilson (Diane), Hazel Crest, IL; and a host of other relatives and friends.
