Tackling football skills
For a group of around 50 youth at the Ruston High School practice football field on Saturday morning, learning the basics about the sport came a little easier with the help of RHS Head Coach Billy Laird, his staff and players.
“I really look forward to doing this every year,” Laird said about teaching the group of 7-12 year olds the game’s basics such as tackling, agility and blocking. “This really helps kids as they grow up learn the game better. It makes them better football players in the future.”
Laird said the clinic has been put on right before the school year starts for the past four years, and it all came about as a way to help the local YMCA recruit and teach more children about the game of football for their league.
