Colleges face big slashes
The old adage of doing more with less has been one plenty of Americans have had to follow over the past few years during tough economic times. And while people have been cutting back on their spending, Louisiana’s public colleges have been dealing with the same problems and are set once again to cut millions from their budgets before the next fiscal year.
According to the University of Louisiana System, since July 2008 Gov. Bobby Jindal and lawmakers have cut approximately $427 million in funding for higher education, leaving the schools, and students attending each university, covering the gap by shelling out close to $390 million of the money lost through tuition and fee hikes.
