Committee recommends cable franchise fee extension
That decision pleased Cox Communications and the Police Jury's legal counsel, Andy Shealy.
"One of the problems is the franchise fee is passed on to customers," Shealy said. "It's not really a tax, but it does get passed on to Cox customers."
The franchise fee, according to Shealy, is to compensate the parish for the use of rights of way for poles and wire, but since it is a pass-along fee, end users ultimately pay for it.
