“Now we’re printing molecules — antibodies, proteins, drugs, nanoparticles,” DeCoster said. “By putting patterns of molecules on the surface, we can control where the cells grow.”

The instrument uses a laser to locate the surface, which has two reservoirs where these molecules can be placed. The reservoir is made of glass and is very fragile, DeCoster said.
