A lifetime of love for teachers
Anyway, once when I was home on leave from the Army, I found out Mrs. Pearce was in an old folks home. Since she had shielded me from many a whipping from our principal, I stopped by for a visit. Her daughter met me at the door and told me she very seldom recognized anyone anymore, not even family. I went in, said hello, and she responded, “Well, hello there, Chuck. How have you been?”
Her daughter was shocked, but she hadn’t spent nine months shepherding me.
