Ruston High School seniors (from left to right) Rachel Hegab, Barrett Moore and Liam Norton were recently named National Merit Commended Students. All three students are ranked in the Top 5 percent of the 1.5 million students who took the PSAT last year. More than two-thirds (about 34,000) of the approximately 50,000 high scorers on the PSAT/NMSQT® receive Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.
Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Gordan Ford issued a challenge Friday in the name of America’s veterans.
“Let us commit ourselves that future generations understand freedom isn’t free,” Ford told a crowd of about 850 people, many of them school children, gathered, in Railroad Park for Ruston’s first city-sponsored Veteran’s Day celebration.
The event included a parade, a flyover by two Louisiana Air National Guard F-15 fighter jets, the laying of a wreath for fallen soldiers and an MIA/POW empty chair ceremony.
