Floe was the third child born to Calvin Joshua and Edna Johnson Lambert. When Floe was 2 years old, her mother died, and she went to live with her Uncle, Thaddeus Johnson, and his wife, Lona Allgood Johnson, at their farm in Summerfield. While Floe grew up on the farm in Summerfield, she remained in close touch with her father and siblings throughout their lifetimes.

She met Hugh Garrett Martin, her husband of 65 years, while she was working in Blytheville, AR and he was stationed at the Army Air Force Base there. They were married on February 13, 1945, in Chicago, IL. After the war, they settled in Sacramento, CA, where their only child Stephen Hugh was born. Floe was anxious to return to her family, and in 1948, the family moved to Bernice, where she and Hugh owned Martin’s Store, a grocery and general merchandise business, which they operated until 1983.

Floe and Hugh were active members of the Bernice United Methodist Church for over 60 years. Until very recently Floe held weekly United Methodist Women meetings at her home. They lived in the same house for 60 years, and Floe was well known for having a beautiful yard. She was a charter member of the Bernice Garden Club, and remained a member until her death.

Robinson and Janice Goss and a brother, Roy Lambert; her stepmother Dora Cole Lambert, and her step siblings Olivia Pickens, Marie Carroll, Eunice Cole, Harrell Cole, Van Cole, and George Cole.
