Lloyd B. Courtney
Lloyd B. Courtney, 87, of Ruston died May 27 at his home. He was a retired rural letter carrier with the US Postal Service, after 42 years and over one million accident-free miles. Following his service in the US Army as a paratrooper during World War II, he made his home in Shaw, MS. He graduated from Delta State Teachers' College prior to joining the postal service. He was also employed part-time at Dixie Tobacco Company in Shaw for 40 years.
He was an active member of the Lions' Club for over 40 years. He belonged to American Legion Post 126. He was active in the Delta Area Senior Golfers and made a hole in one in tournament play at age 80.
He leaves, to cherish his memory, his wife of 62 years, Marialice Courtney; two sisters, Louise Yarwood and Patricia Runnels; two daughters, Pam Zagone and Cindy Stephenson; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, brother, and father.
A memorial service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, where he was a member, on Wednesday, May 30 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation preceding at the church at 10:00. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Grace or the charity of the donor's choice.
