Mrs. Katherine Mabry Charles, a former resident of Ruston, passed away on May 2, 2012, at Keller Oaks Nursing Home in North Richland Hills, Texas.

Mrs. Charles was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John P. Charles of Ruston and her two sons, Dr. Printess L. Charles of Ruston and Ronald D. Charles of Atlanta. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Betty) Baryshev of Grapevine, Texas; daughter Barbara Jo Stewart and son-in-law Phil Stewart of Williamsburg, Virginia; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren. She also had many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Charles was born on November 26, 1922, in Bernice, Louisiana. She lived in Ruston through her graduation from Louisiana Tech, and then moved away with her husband who was in the Navy. She raised her family in Jackson, Mississippi, while working with Dr. Charles in his chiropractic clinic and owning tuxedo rental businesses.

Mrs. Charles returned to Ruston with her husband after they retired. During her years in Ruston, she was an active member of First Baptist Church serving as Chairman of WMU for 5 years, Director for 5 years, and Chairman of Mission Committee and Benevolence Committee. She was also a Past President of the local AARP Chapter and a member of the Arts Club.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Pines Memorial Gardens Cemetery, NW of Ruston on Hwy 544. Dr. Chris Craig, Pastor and Dr. Andy Johnson, Pastor Emeritus of First Baptist Church will officiate. Music will be provided by Brother Dave St. Andre of Ruston and Mrs. Charles’ grandson Doug Stewart of Houston, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the building fund of First Baptist Church, 200 South Trenton, Ruston, Louisiana 71270.
