Ruston amends alcohol ordinance
Speakers for and against presented their points, the aldermen gave theirs and a vote was cast on whether or not restaurants inside Ruston city limits would be allowed to sell alcoholic beverages with meals on Sundays.
And it was a close vote too. In a 3-2 decision, the debated alcohol ordinance was passed by the aldermen Monday night, much to the dismay — and joy — of many of those in attendance.
Alderman Elmore Mayfield introduced the ordinance, and alderman Jedd Lewis seconded it to bring it to a vote. Mayfield, Lewis and alderwoman Glenda Howard all voted in favor of the changes, with alderman Jim Pearce and alderwoman Marie S. Riggs voting against.
