Learn from the defeat of an amendment
I first heard of Mississippi’s so-called “personhood amendment” some six months ago. “It’s definitely going to pass,” a leading consultant told me, with polls showing overwhelming support in socially conservative Mississippi.
Two-thirds of Mississippians call themselves “pro-life,” according to the Pew Research Center. In April, a Project New West poll conducted by Benenson Strategy Group showed the amendment passing 55 percent to 33 percent.
