Then Wednesday night, while watching my beloved New York Yankees attempt to add another game to their lead over the quickly-fading Boston Red Sox, a Goodyear tire commercial came on and suddenly, I understood — Peter Jennings had it right. The generation that saw us through World War II was the greatest generation and ours pales terribly in comparison.

The commercial advertised a tire — I forget the specific name, but that’s not important — that offered a thin layer of Kevlar for extra protection.
