Are fun times over for kids?

If they want to play sports — play, mind you — we take away the fun by sending them to camps and feeding them supplements so they will become bigger, stronger and faster. We lose sight of the fact it is a game — something to be played, not worked at.

Sometimes I wonder if we do this to our children because we want them to excel or because we want people to see what a wonderful job we’ve done as parents. It’s awfully nice to stand with your chest puffed out in pride as you expound on your prodigy’s latest achievement.

In doing this, are we robbing our children of their time to be kids?
