D.A.R.T. urges violence awareness
“The ‘it doesn’t happen to people I know’ train of thought doesn’t apply with domestic violence. Domestic violence accounts for more injuries to women than car accidents, rapes and muggings combined. This statistic alone screams for social change and action,” Maxwell said. “We have to educate the community. How can anything improve if no one is aware or has any community support?”
Maxwell said she has seen many women come through D.A.R.T.’s doors with textbook stories of physical and emotional abuse.
