Truena Richardson Love
Truena Richardson Love, 87, completed her journey on this earth and was welcomed into the loving arms of her Savior on Saturday, July 16, 2011. Born to Ralph and Sarah Geneva Richardson on October 7, 1923, in Virden, NM, she attended college in Silver City, NM, where she enjoyed playing volleyball and being a leader in the band in addition to her studies.
While working at the Deming New Mexico, AFB, she met her sweetheart and was blessed to share 66 ½ years of marriage with him. In 1945, they moved to Ruston, LA, where they purchased land and began farming and rearing a family. Although her proudest accomplishments are her children, she also worked alongside her husband in their several businesses.
In 1980, she founded a food storage and natural foods store which she independently operated for 20 years—The Olde Wheat Barn. She was happy to share her vast knowledge with others and was lovingly referred to as “Dr. Love” by many customers.
Truena was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was a true disciple of Christ. She generously gave of her time while serving in many church positions—working with children’s, youth and women’s organizations. For many years, she traveled the South as a servant of the Lord, sharing her musical talents and leadership skills, contributing to the spreading of His Gospel.
An avid fan of Louisiana Tech Basketball, Truena would attend games with cowbell in hand and cheer her teams to victory. Although she seldom missed a game, if failing health prevented her from attendance, she was sure to be listening on the radio. Besides enjoying sports, her hobbies included collecting coins, stamps and postcards. She was a talented seamstress and gifted in needlework.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one son, two granddaughters and one daughter-in-law.
She is survived by her loving husband, George A. Love of Ruston, LA; three daughters—Carolyn Flint and husband Blaine of Kaysville, UT; Helen Davidson of Haughton, LA; Janice Love and husband Gary Goodling of Ruston, LA; four sons—Ralph and wife Sherrie of Downey, ID; Charles and wife Marilyn of Charleston, SC; Milton and wife Beth of Ruston, LA; Sullivan and wife Lani of Alpine, UT; and one daughter-in-law—Linda Love of LaVergne, TN; 28 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; one sister—Laree Martin of Central, AZ; and one brother, Ralph Lavern Richardson of Heber City, UT.
The family would like to thank the caregivers who have provided loving care for their wife and mother over the past two years: Terry Randle, Faye Smith and Virginia Peterson. In addition, many thanks go to Dr. Joseph Bolger and his staff for their care and kindness.
