AgCenter’s Sparta aid greatly needed
The Sparta Aquifer is much the same way. Research by the United States Geological Survey Office has shown that we are using the water in the Sparta Aquifer at a rate much higher than it is currently being replenished. According to these specialists in the field of hydrology, if we don’t curb our use of the Sparta by at least 18 million gallons per day, we are in danger of losing this most valuable resource. At our current rate of usage we could see salt water encroachment and a collapse of the sands supporting the aquifer.
