Funeral services for Mr. Billy Joe Cook, age 75 of Dubach, will be held at 4:30 PM Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston. Rev. Blaine O’Neill, O.F.M. will officiate the service.  Burial will follow in Pines Memorial Gardens in Ruston under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Cook was born July 29, 1935 in Lake Providence to Joel Cecil Cook and Pauline Rushing Cook.  He died May 5, 2011 in Monroe.  Mr. Cook was a veteran of the US Army.  He worked as a rural mail carrier for 37 years.  After retirement, he became a farmer.  Mr. Cook was a devoted member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ruston.  In his spare time, Mr. Cook enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, coin collecting and spending time with his grandchildren and family.  He loved sports especially Louisiana Tech and LSU sports as well as the New Orleans Saints.  He  was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers:  Charles Cook and J.C. Cook. Mr. Cook is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jo Ann Hanna Cook; his children:  Debby and husband Randy Coleman of Downsville, Carol and husband Rob Shadoin of Ruston, Kathy and husband Brian Vann of Ruston and Jamie Cook and wife Becky of Nesbit, Mississippi; his grandchildren:  Lane Coleman and wife Amy, Joey Coleman, Ginny and husband Brian Canterbury, Robbie Shadoin, Sarah and husband Joey El-Awadi, Shelby and husband Chance Brazzel, Kelsey Hopkins, Katie Hopkins, Cory Cook and Abby Cook; his great grandchildren:  Jacob Coleman, Makenzie Coleman, Cullen Brazzel, Ginger Johnson, Brice Canterbury and Taylor Colvin; his brother:  Joel Cook and Wife Janie as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Brian Vann, Lamar Haddox, Chad Wood, David Manuel, Chris Nelson and Laymond Tucker.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Group at St. Thomas Aquinas.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Ruston.  Planned Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.  To leave a memorial message for the family, please visit www.owensmemorialfuneralhome.com.
