The Western Athletic Conference regular season and postseason tournament champions were eliminated from the NCAA tournament in the first round for the second straight year here Saturday, falling to Florida State University 80-71.
Tech (26-5) had its 15-game winning streak (fifth longest in the country) halted and lost for the first time in three lifetime meetings with the Seminoles (20-9), who reached the 20-victory barrier for the second straight year.
Florida State entered with a No. 6 seed as compared to No. 11 for the Techsters, who have had that position for the last two years.
