The 10th Annual Martin Luther King Day Noon Ecumenical Observance will be held at noon Monday in the Ruston Civic Center.
Walter Kimbrough, president of Philander Smith College in Little Rock, will be the keynote speaker. Kimbrough will address this year’s theme, “Pursuit of the Dream through Service.” The event is sponsored by the office of multicultural affairs at Louisiana Tech University.
A bill that would offer more college opportunities for Lincoln Parish residents passed the House and Senate last Thursday and now awaits a signature from Gov. Bobby Jindal and approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools before it becomes official.
The bill, Senate Bill 645, will provide for the merger of certain Northeast Louisiana Technical College campuses — including Ruston’s and the North Central campus in Farmerville — with Louisiana Delta Community College.
As part of the ongoing investigation, former Louisiana State Police Trooper Ronald Thomas was rearrested on Wednesday for the following additional charges: money laundering, conspiracy to commit money laundering, attempted obstruction of justice and 12 counts of filing false public records. His total bond is set at $260,000. Prior to this arrest, Thomas had been terminated from the state police department.
