Marion Wallace Farries Bretz

A significant figure on the Ruston music scene for half a century, Marion Wallace Farries Bretz, died in Bowling Green, KY, on Sept. 11, aged 98.

A mainstay of choral music at Trinity United Methodist Church, Marion taught over a thousand piano and vocal students from her Goode Street home while her husband, Marshall Bretz, taught at and headed the Louisiana Tech Music Department and served as organist and choir director at Trinity.

Marion taught piano and voice lessons, sang at weddings and funerals, directed children’s choirs and sang in the chancel choir at Trinity until 1979.

Lallage Sisemore Golden

Funeral services for Lallage Sisemore Golden, age 97, of Downsville, LA will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Downsville Baptist Church. Officiating the service will be Rev. Jimmy Eppinette and Rev. Mike Deviller. Interment will follow at Downsville Cemetery in Downsville, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Mrs. Golden was born August 13, 1914 and passed away September 19, 2011.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Golden.

Wilma Christine Farris

Funeral services for Wilma Christine Farris, age 92,formerly of Bernice, Louisiana will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Weldon Baptist Church in Bernice, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Rev. Robert Davis. Interment will follow at Weldon Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Mrs. Farris was born November 28, 1918 and went to her heavenly home to be with our Lord on September 17, 2011 at Northern Louisiana Medical Center.

Freddie Wayne Brooks

Funeral services for Freddie Wayne Brooks, age 71, of Eros will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 19, 2011 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mickey Hudnall and Rev. Darrell Dean officiating the service. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Bernice, LA.

Edward Arnold Ferrell

Edward Arnold Ferrell, age 67 of Ruston, died September 14, 2011 at his home. He was born April 30, 1944 in Jacksonville, Texas to Calvin Earl Ferrell and Valeria Holland Ferrell. Mr. Ferrell was a veteran of the US Navy as well as the US Army National Guard from which he retired as a Sergeant First Class. He served his country during the Vietnam War and Desert Storm. He was also an electrician by trade. In his spare time, he loved grilling, cooking, hunting, fishing, carpentry and spending time with his grandchildren.

Jerald David Broughton

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jerald David Broughton on September 14, 2011, in Jackson, Mississippi. Jerald was born in Hico, Louisiana, on November 30, 1935, the first son of the late Theron Carlton Broughton and Iva Lee Bennett Broughton. Jerald was also predeceased by his daughter, Faye Broughton, and his brother, Jack Wayne Broughton. Jerald was also preceded in death by his father- and mother-in law, John and Vernice Mobley, and two brothers-in-law, John Allen Mobley and Jerry Don Mobley.

Jean Moreland Sikes

Jean Moreland Sikes of Ruston, LA died Saturday, September 10, 2011 at North Louisiana Medical Center at the age or 84. Mrs. Sikes was born in Sweetwater, Texas on August 25, 1927 and moved with her family to Meridian, Mississippi where she grew up. She married her high school sweetheart, Jack Sikes in 1946, and in 1969 they moved their family to Louisiana. Mrs. Sikes worked many years as a legal secretary at the Walker & Holstead law firm as well as at Louisiana Tech. Later, she worked with Mr. Sikes to begin the Yellow Pine Lumber Co. in Monroe where they lived a number of years.

ROSELYN ELIZABETH BROWN HAMMOND, affectionately known as “Rose”, was born in Grambling, Louisiana on January 1, 1939 to Robert A. Brown Sr., Superintendent of Instruction Education, Bienville Parish, LA and Dr. Alma Josephine Farrar Brown, Educator and Principal of Grambling College Laboratory School (later renamed the Alma J. Brown Laboratory School).

They had two children, Rose, their only daughter, and a son, Dr. Robert A. Brown Jr., an Internist at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN, who preceded her in death in 1971.

Funeral services for Margie Waldon Fonteno, 67 will be held, Saturday, September 9, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ with Superintendent Thomas Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, Ruston, LA under the direction of Paradise Funeral Home, Arcadia, LA. Visitation will be held prior to services beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Ms. Fonteno was born April 9, 1944 in Ruston, LA to Robert L. and Hazel L. Waldon, Sr. She passed at her residence at Leslie Lakes Retirement Center in Arcadia, LA on August 31, 2011.

Rev. Robert L. Peyton

The Rev. Robert L. Peyton, 95, died Sunday, September 4, 2011. He and his wife, Elizabeth, lived in retirement in Arcadia, LA for 28 years before moving to Hartwell, GA one month ago. For 68 years, he was a United Methodist pastor who served churches first in Mississippi and Texas, and then in Louisiana since 1953, at Lake Charles, Arcadia, Bastrop, West Monroe, and finally at Ruston as a United Methodist District Superintendent. At each church he served in Louisiana, he initiated successful building expansion programs.
