Wanda Garner Atkins

Funeral services for Wanda Garner Atkins, 81, of Ruston will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Officiating the service will be Dr. Michael Hawley. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Mrs. Atkins was born July 20, 1929 and passed away September 19, 2010 following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Atkins retired from Lincoln General Hospital after forty two years of service. She was an graduate of Weston High School and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Calvin C. Brewster

Funeral services for Mr. Calvin C. Brewster, age 82 of Dubach, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Owens Memorial Chapel with Rev. Scott Jennings officiating.  Burial will follow in Douglas Cemetery near Choudrant under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Brewster was born May 8, 1928 to Norman Brewster and Lois Johnson Brewster.  

He died September 17, 2010 in Ruston. He was an appliance repairman by profession.  In his spare time, Mr. Brewster enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and generally being outdoors. He was a charter member and deacon of the University Baptist Church.

Mr. Brewster is survived by his daughters:  Susan and husband David Pearson of El Dorado and Cindy and husband Tommy Dugdale of Choudrant;  his son:  Doug Brewster of Dubach;  his three granddaughters: Jessica and husband Jeramie Dumas, Lesley Ann Dugdale and Cari Michelle Dugdale; his three great grandchildren: Justin, Jamison, and Jaelynn Dumas; his three sisters:  Othell Armstrong of San Antonio, Texas, Barbara Mae Nunn of Dubach and Mona Hayes of Dubach; his two brothers:  James F. (Buddy) Brewster of Karnak, Texas and Ross Brewster of Tatum, Texas as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard A. “Dickie” Lewis

Richard A. “Dickie” Lewis of Kingwood, TX passed away September 8, 2010. Mr. Lewis was born May 14, 1944 in Ruston, LA to Elwood Lewis and Joyce Christy.  He grew up in Dubach, graduated from Dubach High School in 1962, and from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute in 1966  in business. In May 1966 he married Carolyn Hunter, also of Dubach. He served in the Air Force Reserve for six years.  Mr.

Charles R. Hawkins, 62, of Ringgold, died Aug. 24. Funeral arrangements are incomplete under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel.

Betty Davis Willis, 71, of Arcadia, died Aug. 22. Open visitation will be from noon-5 p.m. Friday at King’s Funeral Home in Ruston. Family hour will be from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday at New Rocky Valley Baptist Church in Grambling. A twilight funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at New Rocky Valley Baptist Church in Grambling. Burial will be in Harmony Church Cemetery in Arcadia.

Caroline Mamon Holland, 85, of Simsboro died Aug. 20. Open visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Friday at King’s Funeral Home in Ruston. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fellowship Baptist Church in Simsboro. Burial will be in Fellowship Church Cemetery.

Willie Jean Singleton, 70, of Ruston, died Aug. 27. Open visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Friday at King’s Funeral Home in Ruston. Overnight drive through viewing will be from 4:45 p.m. Friday through 9 a.m. Saturday. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Burial will be in Macedonia No. 1 Cemetery in Dubach.

Paul Hurysz

A memorial service for Paul Hurysz will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Aquinas Church (810 Casey Ave.). Reception to follow. A member of the Men’s Club, Knights of Columbus and active fan of Louisiana Tech sports, having had two of his children graduate from the university, he was a man who loved being social. All friends and those who know Paul are welcome to join us for a celebration of his life.
