Today, I had to go for an MRI and I was feeling a little sorry for myself until I looked at the new prayer request on our church Prayer Warriors listing.
A young woman with an 18-month-old infant had a Caesarian section to deliver their new baby daughter — now one day old, only to find that the mother has a brain mass which is causing terrible migraines.

Not only did Maddie win this year’s Youth Grand Prize at the Squire Creek Louisiana Peach Festival Cookery Contest, she also recently attended the National Student Leadership Conference Culinary Arts and Careers program in New York City.

When William Roaf played football, he never worried about future awards or — for sure — one day being a member of the sport’s most exclusive “club.”
But after a brilliant 13-year career in the National Football League, he has a warehouse full of individual honors and is less than a day away from being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Monies to boost training program

A literacy program by Louisiana Delta Community College received approximately $397,000 in grants earlier this summer that will be spread to all of its campuses — including Ruston and Farmerville — and will help certain students pay for their educational costs.
The literacy program, Strategies to Empower People, received the funding through the Department of Children and Family Services and the Temporary Assistance for needy families fund, and according to Delta assistant director of financial aid Kimberly Bruce, the funding will be a great help for students in the program.

Event includes style show, dinner, auction

Members of the Ruston High School dance line will model fashions from local shops when they take the stage at the Annual Style Show/Dinner on Monday evening.
The event, which typically draws 350-400 attendees, will take place at the Ruston Civic Center.
“We’ve been doing this since 1993,” said Melanie Garrison, who, along with Beth Yenser, is Bearcat Belles co-sponsor. “For the clothing, we are using all local stores, except the seniors always model evening wear, so we are modeling evening wear from one store in Monroe.”

Councilman reflects on experience, explains ‘guilty’ plea
MAYFIELD.jpg

Following several months going through the judicial system, Ruston Ward 2 City Council member Elmore Mayfield is hopeful his legal troubles are behind him for good.
“To go through a judicial system, it stays a part of your life up until it’s over,” Mayfield said. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s done with several lessons learned.”
After being charged with aggravated assault last October, Mayfield pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of disturbing the peace.
