‘Pack the House’ battle set for Karl Malone Court Saturday

No big deal with the NCAA no longer sponsoring the always popular “Pack the House” promotional event among its member schools.
Louisiana Tech University is staging its own version =on Saturday night.
And if a winner would be declared by the national collegiate governing organization, you can wager the free sunglasses that will be given away at the 7 p.m. women’s contest against Ole Miss that Tech will have a good chance of capturing the unofficial title.
Again, no less.
The university has won every “Pack the House” championship since its inception five years ago.

Making waves at state

Sophomore Preston Sparks helped lead Cedar Creek High School to a third place finish in Division IV of the recent Louisiana High School Athletic Association state swimming championships held in Sulphur. Sparks was chosen as an honorable mention All-State performer after placing in the Top Eight of two different events. He was No. 5 in the 50-meter freestyle and also had the same finish in the 100-m freestyle. The Cougars helped Lincoln Parish programs capture numerous awards at the meet, including a state title for Division II by Ruston High School.

Dykes reported as No. 1 choice for Wolfpack

From Ruston to Raleigh?
Will that be the move for Sonny Dykes by the time this weekend ends?
Everything is indicating that it will happen and likely within the next 48 hours.
Multiple sources close to the North Carolina State University program have told the Ruston Daily Leader that the Louisiana Tech University head coach for the past three years is scheduled to be the Wolfpack’s top choice as their new leader.
An official announcement could be made as early as today or no later than Saturday.

Tech will learn of bowl site Sunday

For Louisiana Tech University’s football program and its fans, the wait will end Sunday night.
That’s when the Bulldogs and their supporters will learn about postseason competition.
The ESPN network will feature its annual “College Football Bowl Selection Special” from 8:30-10 p.m., CDT, at which time the entire schedule of postseason games will be announced by host Rece Davis and analysts Jesse Palmer, David Pollack and Kirk Herbstreit.

• COLBY CAMERON: Completed 38-of-59 passes for career-high 468 yards and three touchdowns.
• QUINTON PATTON: Caught 10 passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns.
• MYLES WHITE: Totaled seven catches for 126 yards and a touchdown.
• KENNETH DIXON: Rushed eight times for 33 yards and a touchdown.
TIGERS

Searching for a leader

Guice, Hrncir interviewed for Tech president position

Research was a hot topic during public interviews of both semi-finalists in the search for the next president of Louisiana Tech University, with both candidates expressing clear support for the advancement of research at the school.
“I think the role of the university is not only to pass on existing knowledge but to create new knowledge,” said Duane C. Hrncir, acting president of South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and one of the semifinalists. “Research is key, I think, in order to continue to provide a quality education for the graduates.”

DRABO hosts festival, parade

With Christmas right around the corner, the Dubach Restoration and Beatification Organization is making sure the community has plenty to choose from when purchasing gifts by hosting its annual Christmas Arts and Crafts Festival and Parade on Saturday.
“This is done strictly for the community,” said Maggie Brown, president of DRABO. “There is no admission for either the parade or into the warehouse.”

Burglary reported in Hico

The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office is seeking tips regarding a burglary in Hico that was discovered on Tuesday afternoon.
LPSO spokesman Stephen Williams said numerous firearms and some collector knives were stolen in the burglary on Wise Road that involved forced entry through a door.
“We’re actively working this case,” he said.
