Man jailed over theft

A Choudrant man was arrested Monday after allegedly stealing approximately $500 from a fellow resident.
According to an arrest affidavit, the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office received a complaint on Monday that Andrew Bryan Fowler, 43, of 366 Hogan Road in Choudrant, had sold a large amount of miscellaneous items to another Choudrant man.

I-20 site for two-car collision

A two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 20 involving the red Dodge Durango pictured above sent two people to the hospital this morning.
According to reports from the Louisiana State Police, the Durango was traveling westbound on I-20 when the driver lost control, ran off into the median, crossed onto the other lane of traffic and then collided with the rear axle of an 18-wheeler.

Area stars give commitment to WAC champions

Kentrell Brice from Ruston and West Monroe’s Terrell Lathan gave Louisiana Tech’s 2012 signing class a big boost last week when they committed to Bulldogs’ Head Coach Sonny Dykes.
The NCAA’s National Signing Day is Wednesday.
Brice, a 6-1 and 175-pound defensive back from Ruston High School, had previously committed to Missouri and Oregon State before ultimately deciding on his hometown team.

Choudrant boys crack Top 10

Aggies earn ranking in state basketball poll

Two Lincoln Parish teams have switched places with each other in the weekly Louisiana Sports Writers Association state high school basketball poll.
Choudrant has moved into the Top 10 and District 1-B rival Simsboro has dropped out for the Class B/C boys’ division.
The Aggies (26-7, 3-1) earned their first Top 10 listing of the season with today’s announcement of the third weekly poll.

Tech to host BracketBuster contest

Louisiana Tech University’s basketball Bulldogs will host Central Arkansas in the Thomas Assembly Center at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 18 as part of the 2012 Sears BracketBuster event in a non-televised game.
Central Arkansas is a member of the Southland Conference and located in Conway, Ark. They are 7-12 on the season and 2-5 in conference play entering this week.
LaQuentin Miles leads the Bears with 16.9 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per contest and is second on the squad in field goal percentage (51.6 percent) and assists (2.3 apg).

Relaying for life

Lincoln Parish kicks off annual fundraising effort

Lincoln Parish residents are gearing up to battle cancer as they prepare for this year’s Relay for Life on April 20.
Last Thursday evening, members of the community gathered at the Ruston Lincoln Visitor’s Center to learn about Relay for Life.
“You have to ask yourself ‘Why am I here?’” said Maura Koonz, American Cancer Society community representative. “There is a reason why we are here.”

Tech presents ‘Robin Hood’

With their upcoming production of “The Adventures of Robin Hood,” the director, cast and crew will give their rendition of the tale many are familiar with.

International students provide tastes of culture

The atmosphere was universal on Saturday night as a crowd gathered on the main floor in Louisiana Tech University’s Student Center to participate in an annual get together that always leaves attendees clamoring for more.
For the 13th straight year, Tech hosted the International Student Scholarship night, and international students from countries all over the planet, including Nepal, Nigeria, Vietnam and even India, were on hand to serve guests food and also give them a taste of some of their culture.

Jazz brunch set for Feb. 4 in Bernice

An interlude of New Orleans-style jazz music and gourmet dining will greet attendees of the Jazz Brunch with Jackie Greggs beginning at 11 a.m. on Feb. 4, in Bernice.
Greggs is a renowned jazz vocalist and arranger, and her musical ensemble will be in the spotlight in the fellowship hall of Bernice United Methodist Church, located on U.S. Highway 167 at 8th Street.
